East Texas man pleads guilty to murdering LSD dealer, sentenced to 25 years in prison

A man from Huntington, Texas, was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of a man he met to buy LSD from in 2018. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg made the announcement regarding the sentencing of 24-year-old Jace Weeks in a press release on Sunday.

Weeks admitted to fatally shooting 31-year-old Sam Kyle James on April 30, 2018. On that day, Weeks traveled from Huntington to Houston to purchase LSD from James, also known as Kyle.

According to Ogg, just before the transaction took place, Weeks shot James in the head with a .22-caliber rifle. James was discovered dead in his vehicle at the apartment complex where he resided. The Houston Police Department conducted an investigation into the case, utilizing surveillance footage from the apartment complex to identify the vehicle that fled the scene, ultimately leading them to Weeks.

Investigators interviewed Weeks a few days after the murder, during which he confessed to the crime. Ogg described the murder as senseless and unnecessary, emphasizing the importance of obtaining justice for the victim’s family to aid in their healing process.

Assistant District Attorney Bryan Honeycutt, who prosecuted the case, highlighted the significance of the killer facing consequences and taking accountability for his actions to bring closure to the James family. Weeks will have the opportunity for parole after serving 20 years of his sentence.
