Texas pastor pleads guilty to federal charge of possessing child pornography

A man from Georgetown, Texas, who previously served as a pastor at a church in Round Rock, has pleaded guilty in federal court to an aggravated charge of possessing child pornography.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice (DOJ), David Lloyd Walther, 57, confessed to intentionally searching for, downloading, sharing, and possessing materials depicting child sexual abuse, including child pornography.

The initial accusation against Walther involved downloading child pornography and sharing it online through a file-sharing platform known as BitTorrent.

Search warrants were executed at Walther’s residence and vehicle in November 2022.

During the search, authorities discovered two large computer hard drives containing over 100,000 images and more than 5,000 videos depicting instances of child sexual abuse.

At the time of his arrest, Walther was serving as the pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Round Rock, Texas.

Walther could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the FBI San Antonio Division’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, with support from the Round Rock Police Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, and Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center.

This case was pursued as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort initiated by the DOJ in 2006 to address the escalating issue of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
