New York City police officer from Long Island indicted on 119 counts of child pornography possession

A police officer in New York City faced serious charges of possessing child pornography, as announced by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. Steven Marksberry, residing in Lake Grove, New York, allegedly stored child sexual abuse material on his cellphone by taking screenshots. The investigation began when the Suffolk County Police Department received a tip from Internet Crimes Against Children, indicating that Marksberry had uploaded such images to his iCloud account.

Upon executing a search warrant on Marksberry’s devices, the police discovered numerous disturbing pictures depicting the sexual abuse of young girls aged between 4 and 12. The indictment against Marksberry included 50 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child and 69 counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, all of which are serious felony charges. If found guilty, Marksberry could face up to 20 years in prison.

During the arraignment in front of Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro, Marksberry was ordered to be held on a substantial bail amount. Justice Ambro set the bail at $100,000 cash, $250,000 bond, or $2.5 million partially secured bond. Marksberry is scheduled to appear in court again on August 7 for further proceedings.

Tierney emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that no one, especially a sworn police officer, is above the law when it comes to crimes involving child exploitation. The safety and protection of children remain a top priority for law enforcement agencies. The investigation into this case is ongoing, with authorities working diligently to uncover any additional evidence or information related to the matter.
