Following a 911 call, authorities have successfully located the body of a missing paddleboarder near the Martha’s Vineyard residence of former President Barack Obama. The dispatch directed responders to the address of the former president’s estate at 79 Turkeyland Cove in Edgartown, Massachusetts, which was acquired by the Obamas in 2019.

The identity of the caller remains unknown, but the dispatcher instructed responders to meet at the gate upon arrival. The body of the 43-year-old paddleboarder was discovered around 10 a.m. on Monday, submerged at a depth of approximately eight feet and about 100 feet from the shore of Edgartown Great Pond, as reported by Massachusetts State Police (MSP).

Utilizing side-scan sonar from a boat, Massachusetts Environmental Police officers located the body, which was then retrieved by MSP divers. A command post was established at Wilson’s Landing to coordinate the operation.

The victim’s name has not been disclosed at this time.

Tragically, 2 hikers were found deceased in Nevada’s Valley of Fire State Park amidst scorching 114-degree temperatures.

The initial response occurred at 7:46 p.m. on Sunday following reports of a male paddleboarder struggling in the water near Turkeyland Cove. Despite efforts, the individual submerged and did not resurface, witnessed by another paddleboarder present at the scene.

In a separate incident, a 36-year-old Ohio man tragically passed away after a cliff jumping accident at Lake Powell in Utah.

The search operation continued into the night on Sunday, but the missing individual was not located. Divers, flight crews, and boat crews resumed the search the following morning with assistance from Coast Guard helicopter teams, the Dukes County Sheriff’s Department, local police, Edgartown fire personnel, and other island fire departments.

The State Police Detective Unit for the Cape and Islands District, in conjunction with Edgartown police, is overseeing the investigation into the tragic incident.
