An individual of Mexican nationality suspected of fatally shooting five neighbors in southeast Texas following a request to cease firing his rifle due to a sleeping baby, was formally charged with capital murder of multiple individuals on Friday.
Francisco Oropeza, aged 38 and a Mexican citizen, had been deported multiple times before the tragic incident in Cleveland, Texas, which occurred in April.
The capital murder indictment is in addition to the initial five murder charges Oropeza faced in May.

San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon mentioned to the Associated Press that it is premature to determine whether the death penalty will be pursued against the accused.
Oropeza’s lawyer, Anthony Osso, stated that his client will plead not guilty and anticipated the capital indictment.
Oropeza is alleged to have used an AR-15 to fatally shoot four adults — Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25; Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31; and Jose Jonathan Casarez, 18 — along with a 9-year-old child, Daniel Enrique Laso Guzman.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the area, leading to an extensive manhunt involving over 250 officers, drones, and scent tracking dogs, as well as an $80,000 reward for information leading to Oropeza’s arrest and conviction.
After a five-day search, Oropeza was apprehended without incident on May 3 by U.S. Marshals, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the U.S. Border Patrol’s BORTAC team.
He was discovered hiding under a pile of laundry in a closet of a residence approximately 20 miles away from the crime scene.
In addition to Oropeza’s arrest, his partner and a friend were also charged with obstructing the apprehension or prosecution of a known criminal.
