Authorities in Texas have found four bodies, including an infant, in the Rio Grande near the United States-Mexico border since the beginning of July, according to officials.
Lt. Chris Olivarez, a representative from the Texas Department of Public Safety, stated that two bodies were recovered from the river on July 1, one on July 2, and another on July 3. The identities of the deceased individuals have not been determined yet.
“In the last 48 hours, the Texas Department of Public Safety Tactical Marine Unit (TMU) discovered 4 deceased bodies, including an infant, in the Rio Grande River in Eagle Pass,” Olivarez tweeted on Monday.
TMU Operators and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission were called by the U.S. Border Patrol to assist with a potential infant drowning incident on July 1, as per Olivarez.

Two airboats were deployed by the agencies, and they discovered “multiple bodies” floating in the river. Olivarez mentioned that four individuals were brought onto the boat, with two of them being unresponsive – a woman and an infant girl.
TMU operators administered CPR to the woman and baby, but unfortunately, they did not respond. Medical personnel arrived at the scene and transported both to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
The two survivors, who were not named, were handed over to U.S. Border Patrol, as stated by Olivarez.

On Sunday, authorities also found the body of an unidentified male in the Rio Grande, followed by the discovery of an unidentified woman’s body on Monday, according to the Texas DPS spokesperson.
“The identities of the deceased individuals remain unknown as none of them had any identification documents,” Olivarez added.
Aside from the bodies recovered in recent days, Texas DPS troopers rescued two Guatemalan migrant children who were abandoned near the border on Monday.
The children, aged 8 and 11, were located at the edge of the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Olivarez reported.
The children informed troopers that an adult female had left them at the river’s edge in Mexico and instructed them to cross it.
“Children who are smuggled or trafficked across the Texas-Mexico border continue to be exploited and abandoned in perilous situations,” Olivarez stated on Monday.
