Virginia Authorities Apprehend Trio from Pennsylvania for Department Store Robberies

In a recent incident, Virginia authorities arrested three individuals from Pennsylvania who were allegedly involved in a series of department store robberies. The suspects, identified as Ericka Williams, Amin Shamsid-Deen, and Tunisia Amina Shamsid-Deen, all residents of Philadelphia, are facing charges such as grand larceny, organized retail theft, and resisting arrest. Additionally, Tunisia was charged with possession of a schedule I/II drug. The suspects, aged between 26 and 32, were apprehended following a tip received by authorities from an employee at Sak’s Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

The authorities were alerted that a retail theft crew had fled the scene in a gold Chevrolet Impala with Pennsylvania tags. Utilizing License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology, Tysons Urban Team (TUT) officers tracked the vehicle entering Virginia and heading towards Saks Fifth Avenue in McLean. Upon arrival at the store, two suspects were caught stealing items and attempted to flee when approached by law enforcement.

The suspects had selected high-end handbags and luxury merchandise, attempting to exit the store without payment. Despite being confronted by the store’s Loss Prevention team, the suspects made a run for it. All three suspects, including the driver, were eventually apprehended, with one found hiding in a dumpster. Further investigations revealed that one of the suspects had also stolen from another retail establishment.

During the investigation, authorities recovered approximately $15,000 worth of stolen property. The suspects were taken into custody and are currently being held without bond in a local jail. This incident highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating organized retail theft and ensuring the safety and security of businesses and communities.
