Texas DPS arrests Gulf Cartel operative for alleged human smuggling into US

A suspected member of the Mexican Gulf Cartel was apprehended by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on Tuesday for allegedly aiding five undocumented immigrants in crossing into the United States.

Texas DPS Lieutenant Chris Olivarez shared a video of the arrest on Twitter the following day, showing a trooper questioning Jose Juan Eufracio Medina, an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

According to Olivarez, DPS brush and drone teams located a smuggler, identified as Medina, who facilitated the illegal immigrants’ crossing of the Rio Grande River and assisted them in scaling the border wall using a ladder.

In the video, Medina denied leading the group of immigrants into the U.S., claiming that he wanted the guide, whom he was speaking with on the phone, to accompany them across the border.

Medina disclosed to the trooper that he paid $1,000 to enter the U.S.

During questioning, Medina admitted to assisting the group by holding a ladder as they scaled the border wall to prevent them from falling, asserting that he was not part of the group.

When asked why the group followed him, he suggested that it might be because of his wisdom, understanding, and capabilities.

Medina, along with the five undocumented immigrants from Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala, was taken into custody. He later informed DPS that he was en route to Houston and was employed by the Gulf Cartel, as per the social media update.
