Slain Oregon doctor’s ex-wife charged years after home-invasion murder

An Oregon man’s former wife from Guatemala has been accused of his murder and captured after evading authorities for almost two years.

The Coos County grand jury issued a sealed indictment against Reina Gabriela Jackson, also known as Reina Gabriela Matute-Ruano, charging her with second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the killing of her ex-husband, Dr. Craig Jackson, in August 2021.

It is believed that two other unidentified individuals were also involved in the murder of Jackson, as reported by local news sources.

Sheriff Gabe Fabrizio revealed that Reina Jackson was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 14, 2023, upon her return to the United States, unaware of the arrest warrant against her.

Dr. Jackson succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head. He worked as a family practice physician, according to KTVL.

District Attorney Paul Frasier disclosed that authorities suspect two other unidentified male perpetrators were part of the attack on Jackson, who were said to have entered his North Bend residence on the morning of August 2, 2021, resulting in his death.

The DA mentioned that the couple had recently finalized their divorce before the tragic incident occurred.

Following Jackson’s murder, Reina Jackson fled to Guatemala, her home country, prompting authorities to issue a warrant for her arrest after the grand jury’s indictment.

In addition to the murder charges, Reina Jackson was also taken into custody for allegedly violating the terms of her probation related to a first-degree burglary charge dating back to 2021.

Currently, Reina Jackson is being held in an Atlanta jail after her apprehension in Georgia, as confirmed by Sheriff Fabrizio.
