Pennsylvania State Police have revealed that the individual captured on doorbell video footage, initially thought to be escaped fugitive murder suspect Michael Charles Burham, was not him upon further investigation.
During a press conference on Saturday, PSP Lt. Col. George Bivens stated, “We can now confirm that the person shown in the video is not Michael Burham, thanks to the public response. We have strong indications that he is still within the vicinity.”
Authorities describe Burham as a self-taught survivalist who is well-equipped to endure outdoor conditions.
Despite the misidentification in the video, law enforcement officials urge residents in northwestern Pennsylvania and western New York to regularly check their home surveillance cameras for any signs of suspicious activity and report it promptly.
“I urge residents of northwestern Pennsylvania and western New York to review their doorbell and surveillance footage regularly to aid in this search,” emphasized Bivens.

Residents are also advised to be vigilant for any small stockpiles or remnants of campsites in the area.
“As individuals explore the woods this weekend and beyond, we request that they inform us of any discovered packages or seemingly abandoned campsites,” added Bivens.
Burham, an Army veteran with survivalist and firearms training, was detained on kidnapping charges and is also linked to murder and rape cases in New York as part of a cross-state crime spree that culminated in his capture in South Carolina following a previous manhunt in May.
He managed to escape from the jail’s gym to the rooftop on July 6, descending using a makeshift rope crafted from bedsheets, according to officials.
Subsequently, he fled wearing a denim jacket and the jail-issued orange-striped jumpsuit and matching Crocs around 11:20 p.m. However, there are indications that he may have changed his attire during his escape, with over 150 officers from various law enforcement agencies investigating potential sightings in both states.
Authorities suspect that the fugitive is receiving assistance from outside sources following his escape.
