New Hampshire nurse, her child kidnapped in Haiti, faith-based organization says

A woman and her child from New Hampshire were taken captive on Thursday while participating in a community outreach program near the capital of Haiti, as reported by a faith-based organization. This incident occurred on the same day that the U.S. government issued a warning for American citizens to depart Haiti promptly due to the escalating levels of gang-related violence and abductions.

The woman, Alix Dorsainvil, who is a community nurse and the spouse of the organization’s director, was seized along with her child in the morning near Port-Au-Prince, according to El Roi Haiti. The exact age of Dorsainvil’s child has not been disclosed by authorities.

Jason Brown, the president and co-founder of El Roi Haiti, expressed in a statement that Dorsainvil dedicated herself tirelessly to her nursing duties and educational endeavors in the spirit of compassion and service inspired by her faith.

“Alix is a deeply compassionate and loving person who considers Haiti her home and the Haitian people her friends and family,” Brown stated on Saturday. “Alix has worked tirelessly as our school and community nurse to bring relief to those who are suffering as she loves and serves the people of Haiti in the name of Jesus.”

On July 27, the U.S. State Department instructed non-essential personnel at the American embassy in Port-au-Prince to evacuate Haiti along with their eligible family members.

A travel advisory categorized as “Do Not Travel,” the most severe level, urged U.S. citizens to exit the nation immediately due to the prevalent risks of kidnapping, criminal activities, civil unrest, and inadequate healthcare facilities. This directive was issued following recent violent confrontations between law enforcement and criminal factions in the capital city.

The advisory highlighted the widespread nature of kidnappings in Haiti, with American citizens frequently becoming targets. The Department of State emphasized that abductors may employ sophisticated tactics or seize opportunities as they arise.

Ransom negotiations are often part of kidnapping cases, with family members and loved ones being coerced into paying substantial sums to secure the release of their abducted relatives.

As of now, the U.S. Department of State has not provided a response to inquiries made by Fox News Digital.
