Following a tragic incident in New Hampshire, two young children were the subject of an Amber Alert, but are now safe, as their father is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing their mother.
John M. Formella, the Attorney General of New Hampshire, revealed that Dustin Mark Duren, 37, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Caitlyn Naffziger, 31.
The unfortunate event took place on Thursday night in the couple’s shared residence in Berlin, New Hampshire, where Duren reportedly shot his wife, Naffziger.
Upon the discovery of Naffziger’s body, state police issued an Amber Alert for the couple’s two daughters, 4-year-old Elowyn Duren and 1-year-old Vaelyn Duren.
Finding the Missing Children
Attorney General Formella disclosed that the girls were last seen in Berlin, New Hampshire, around 8 p.m. on Thursday in the company of their father, Duren.
Although authorities mentioned that Duren could be armed and dangerous, no further details were provided at the time.
Safe Recovery
By 10:30 a.m. the following day, New Hampshire State Police announced that Elowyn and Vaelyn had been located unharmed at an Applebee’s restaurant in Keene, approximately three hours away from Berlin.
Duren was apprehended without any issues at the restaurant, bringing a sense of relief to the situation.
Resolution of the Amber Alert
Later that evening, Formella confirmed that the Amber Alert had been lifted, expressing gratitude to the public for their cooperation and swift response to the alert issued by the New Hampshire State Police.
