Michigan girl burned with acid in playground attack, 12-year-old girl charged

A 12-year-old girl in Michigan is facing charges for allegedly throwing acid on an 11-year-old girl at a Detroit playground, resulting in chemical burns on the victim’s body.

Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney Kym Worthy has announced that the accused is charged with assault with intent to cause great bodily harm and felonious assault.

Expressing deep concern, Worthy stated that impulsive and harmful decisions can have long-lasting impacts on others. She emphasized that there is no justification for such actions.

According to a GoFundMe page created by Dominique Summers, her daughter Deaira Summers was at a local park with her siblings and cousins when a confrontation occurred between the attacker and one of her cousins.

The substance used in the attack was provided by the attacker’s mother, who allegedly instructed her to throw it on the children as a form of retaliation.

While everyone else escaped unharmed, the 11-year-old victim experienced smoke emanating from her body and her clothes began to disintegrate.

Following the incident, the child was promptly taken to a hospital where it was revealed that she had sustained second and third-degree burns on her back.

Recounting the ordeal, Deaira mentioned that the burning sensation started immediately after the acid made contact with her skin.

Since the attack, Deaira has been struggling to sleep and has had a diminished appetite, as reported by her mother. The Detroit Public Schools Community District initiated an investigation into the incident due to it occurring on school property.

The district clarified that the incident did not involve any of their staff or relate to a school-related event. They emphasized that it is a community issue involving two families not affiliated with the school district.

The accused individual has been instructed to refrain from contacting Deaira or any witnesses and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
