Iowa man sentenced for 2020 murders of girlfriend and her friend

An Iowa man, aged 39, has been given consecutive life sentences for the murder of his girlfriend and her friend a few years ago.

The loved ones of Tamica Allison, 42, and Andrea Anderson, 41, pleaded with Matthew Dee Buford III for answers regarding the double homicide he committed in Waterloo, Iowa in February 2020.

During the sentencing on Thursday, Anderson’s son, Mohammed Calhoun, implored Buford to provide a reason for his actions, stating, “If you had any shred of humanity left, I would simply ask you to enlighten us.”

Throughout the month-long trial, prosecutors did not present a motive for the crime, but Buford was found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder and fleeing to avoid capture.

According to authorities, Buford was drinking with Allison and Anderson when he allegedly shot them. Allison and Buford were in a relationship, while Anderson was a visitor at the time of the incident.

Allison’s teenage daughter testified that she was upstairs in her bedroom and heard her mother’s last words followed by two gunshots.

During the prosecution, Allison’s daughter recounted her mother’s defiant words, “What are you going to do, shoot me in the face? I don’t care, I’m not scared.”

After dropping off Allison’s children at different homes, Buford fled the state.

Upon arrival, Waterloo Police Department officers discovered the lifeless bodies of the two women with gunshot wounds.

Buford turned himself in in Peoria, Illinois on February 12, 2020, and was later extradited back to Waterloo on February 22, 2020.
