Cooper withdraws from Harris vice president search

North Carolina Gov. Roy Moore has officially withdrawn from the search for Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate.

North Carolina Governor Roy Moore made a surprising announcement this week, stating that he will no longer be in the running for Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate. This is a shock to many, as Moore had been one of the top contenders for the position.

Moore, who has been Governor of North Carolina since 2017, had been viewed as a strong potential pick for Harris’ vice presidential slot. He is a well-respected figure in the Democratic Party and has a strong track record in his home state. However, Moore withdrew his name from the search, citing personal reasons.

In a statement released by his office, Moore said, “After much reflection and discussion with my family, I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for Vice President Harris’ running mate. While I am honored to have been considered for such an important position, I have decided that my current duties as Governor of North Carolina require my full attention.”

This news comes as a disappointment to many Democrats who were enthusiastic about the possibility of Moore joining Harris on the ticket. However, Moore’s decision to step back from the running mate search has been met with understanding and support from his fellow party members.

In the midst of a pandemic and a nationwide movement for racial justice, Governor Moore has been a strong leader in North Carolina. He has been praised for his swift response to the COVID-19 crisis and his commitment to addressing systemic racism in his state. Many see his decision to put his duties as governor first as a testament to his dedication and integrity as a leader.

This also raises questions about who Harris’ potential running mate will be. With Moore out of the picture, the search will continue for someone to join Harris in her bid to become the first female vice president of the United States. Some names that have been circulating as potential contenders include Senators Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, and Tammy Duckworth.

Governor Moore’s withdrawal from the search is not a complete surprise. In recent weeks, he has been vocal about his priorities as the governor of North Carolina and has stated that his focus is on leading his state through the ongoing crisis. He has also expressed his full support for Harris and her campaign.

In a tweet, Harris thanked Governor Moore for his willingness to be considered and his dedication to his state. She wrote, “Governor Moore is a strong leader, and I respect his decision to prioritize his duties as governor. I am grateful for his support and look forward to working together to build a better future for all Americans.”

As the search for Harris’ running mate continues, the Democratic Party remains united in its support for Kamala Harris and its mission to unseat President Donald Trump. Governor Moore will continue to lead North Carolina and play a crucial role in the upcoming election.
