Carlee Russell informed a 911 dispatcher that she would wait on the interstate until police officers arrived, as revealed by new audio of the call released by authorities.

The 25-year-old Russell went missing on July 13 after reporting to a 911 operator around 9:24 p.m. that she had spotted a 3 to 4-year-old child in a diaper walking along the side of Interstate 459 South near Birmingham, Alabama, according to the Hoover Police Department.

Following her call to 911, Russell contacted a family member and then abruptly stopped communicating, but the line remained open, as per police reports. She returned home around 10:45 p.m. on July 15 and was subsequently taken to a local hospital before being discharged. Authorities stated that there was no evidence of a toddler on the interstate.

Audio Release and Details

During a recent press conference, Hoover police shared the audio from the 911 call made by Russell before her disappearance.

Russell informed the 911 operator, “I am on Interstate 459 and there is a child walking alone.” She described the child as “maybe around three or four years old.”

Describing the child’s attire, Russell mentioned, “It’s a white T-shirt, and it looks like he is wearing a diaper.”

She assured the 911 operator that she would remain with the child until law enforcement arrived. However, upon arrival, officers discovered a running vehicle with Russell’s belongings inside, but Russell herself was nowhere to be found.

Details of Russell’s Account

Russell recounted to the police that a man emerged from the woods to check on the child, but then forcibly took her over a nearby fence.

She claimed that the man coerced her into a vehicle and her last memory was being inside the trailer of a large truck.

According to Russell, the man had orange hair with a bald spot at the back of his head. She managed to escape the truck briefly but was recaptured and placed in a car.

Subsequently, Russell stated that she was blindfolded but not physically restrained, as her captor did not want to leave any marks. She alleged that she was taken to a residence, undressed against her will, and believes that photographs were taken of her.

The next day, during her conversation with the police, Russell mentioned being fed cheese crackers by a woman upon waking up.

She recalled that the woman played with her hair but could not recall further details. Eventually, she found herself in a vehicle in the West Hoover area and managed to escape, running through wooded areas until reaching her home.

During the police interview, it was noted that Russell had $107 cash concealed in her sock.

Authorities revealed that data from Russell’s phone, accessed through her Life 360 application, indicated that she traveled 600 yards while on the phone with 911, claiming to be following the child.

It was disclosed that Russell was accused of taking items belonging to her employer, the Woodhouse Spa Birmingham, including a dark-colored bathrobe and a roll of toilet paper, on July 13 at approximately 8:20 p.m.

Furthermore, it was reported that Russell had searched for information related to Amber Alerts and theft prior to her disappearance. She had also looked up the movie “Taken,” a film depicting a father’s quest to rescue his kidnapped daughter in Europe.

Authorities found it peculiar that Russell had searched for the movie “Taken” shortly before her alleged abduction. Additionally, she had searched for a one-way bus ticket from Birmingham to Nashville and inquired about the maximum age for an Amber Alert.
