California National Park Service rangers hunt for a man with knife in Sequoia National Park

Authorities are currently searching for an individual armed with a knife in the Giant Forest area of Sequoia National Park.

On Friday morning before 5 a.m. PT, the National Park Service received a report of a vehicle on fire along the Generals Highway in the southern California park.

Upon reaching the vehicle, park rangers found it completely burned down.

During the investigation of the incident, another call came in regarding a confrontation.

According to reports, the suspect tried to rob someone of their cell phone, keys, and wallet while brandishing a knife and stick.

Upon refusal, the suspect fled into the forest.

The suspect is described as wearing sturdy hiking boots, dark green cargo pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a brimless hat, and a gaiter or buff covering the mouth and nose.

Furthermore, rangers discovered that the Giant Forest Museum had been broken into and vandalized while closed, with no visitors present.

The museum is currently closed for repairs, but the Lodgepole Visitor Center in Lodgepole Village remains open, as per the Park Service.

It is currently uncertain if these incidents are connected.

The suspect is still at large, and the National Park Service, FBI, and U.S. Forest Service are conducting an ongoing investigation.

No injuries have been reported by officials.

Although the previous area closure and shelter-in-place order have been lifted, visitors to Sequoia National Park are advised to exercise caution and stay vigilant.
