Woman speaks out after father’s remains trafficked in Harvard Medical School morgue scandal: ‘No words’

Caution: The following account contains explicit details.

An individual from New Hampshire has come forward after discovering that her father’s remains were allegedly trafficked by a disgraced former manager at Harvard Medical School, describing the actions as beyond belief.

Nicholas Pichowicz, the father of Paula Peltonovich, had expressed in his will his desire to donate his body to Harvard’s medical school. He passed away at the age of 87 in 2019.

Peltonovich immediately reached out to Harvard upon learning about the indictments of several individuals involved in the theft and sale of body parts from the school’s morgue.

Expressing her disgust, Peltonovich shared with the Boston Globe, “We were just appalled. It made us feel physically ill.”

According to Peltonovich, Harvard confirmed that her father was a victim of the trafficking scheme.

“It’s unimaginable. There are no words,” expressed the distraught daughter, mentioning the lack of information due to ongoing legal proceedings.

The former manager of Harvard Medical School’s morgue, Cedric Lodge, was indicted by a federal grand jury alongside alleged accomplices Katrina Maclean, Joshua Taylor, and Jeremy Pauley. Lodge’s wife, Denise Lodge, was also indicted for her suspected involvement in the trafficking.

Authorities suspect that Lodge pilfered organs and body parts from donated cadavers before their intended cremation. Some of these remains were allegedly taken to his residence in New Hampshire between 2018 and 2022.

As reported by the Globe, Lodge was terminated on May 6. The indictment, as obtained by Fox News Digital, revealed that many body parts were shipped to buyers via the U.S. Postal Service.

“At times [Lodge] stole dissected portions of donated cadavers, including, for example, heads, brains, skin, bones, and other human remains,” the indictment detailed.

In a disturbing incident, Lodge purportedly sold two “dissected faces” to Maclean of Salem for $600.

Harvard Medical School (HMS) released a statement condemning the incident titled “An abhorrent betrayal.”

“We deeply regret the anguish this revelation will bring to the families and loved ones of our anatomical donors, and HMS commits to supporting them during this profoundly distressing period,” the statement conveyed.

According to the Globe, Peltonovich’s mother’s body was also donated to Harvard Medical School in March. Peltonovich shared that her family is currently endeavoring to retrieve her mother’s remains from Harvard, if feasible.

“We wish to have her returned to us for a proper burial. We do not wish for her to be cremated,” she stated.
