Tupac murder: Las Vegas PD reveals evidence seized from ‘Compton Kingpin’

Las Vegas authorities confiscated numerous items from a residence linked to the self-proclaimed “Compton Kingpin,” who has claimed to have been present during the fatal shooting of rapper Tupac Shakur. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, aged 60, was the subject of a search warrant executed by police in Henderson, located approximately 20 miles southeast of the bustling Las Vegas strip. The seized items included a Pokeball USB Drive, an iPhone, three iPads (one with a cracked screen), four laptops, a tablet, a desktop computer, several external hard drives, copies of the book “Compton Street Legends,” a Vibe magazine featuring Shakur, and two “black tubs” of photographs, as detailed in the search warrant.

Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson, was previously considered the primary suspect in the 1996 murder of the renowned rap icon. Anderson denied any involvement before meeting his demise in a separate shooting incident in Compton, California, in 1998. Neighbors observed law enforcement officers conducting a raid on the property on Wednesday night, with cruisers and SWAT vehicles present, illuminating the house with flashing blue and red lights. Public records indicate that the property is associated with Davis and his spouse, although there is uncertainty regarding whether he still resides there, as per a neighbor’s statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Court records from Las Vegas reveal an active warrant for Davis’ arrest since July 2022, stemming from his failure to appear in court on a drug-related charge. While the police have not disclosed additional information beyond the contents of the search warrant, which was initially obtained by NBC News, it is evident that the warrant encompassed various electronic devices, documentation linking Davis to the South Side Compton Crips street gang, cellphones, and his memoir, “Compton Street Legend.” Authorities also sought out any handwritten or typed materials referencing Shakur’s murder, such as notes, writings, ledgers, and other documents.

In a documentary released in 2018 titled “Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.,” Davis, known as the “Compton Kingpin,” initially denied any involvement in Shakur’s death but later disclosed details of the events leading up to the tragic incident. According to Davis, everyone in the vehicle, including himself, was affiliated with the South Side Compton Crips street gang and was searching for Shakur following a confrontation with a gang member hours before the fatal shooting. Despite initially denying involvement, Davis eventually admitted to being present during the incident but did not disclose the identity of the shooter.

The murder of Shakur on September 7, 1996, while he was seated in Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight’s vehicle, sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community and remains an unsolved case nearly three decades later. The lack of cooperation from witnesses has hindered the investigation, with the case still shrouded in mystery. In 2018, Davis broke his silence during an interview for a BET show, implicating his nephew in the murder. Shakur’s untimely death was made even more haunting by the eerie foreshadowing in his lyrics, particularly in his 1991 song “Soulja’s Story.”

The tragic loss of Shakur at the age of 25, with his album “All Eyez on Me” still dominating the charts, left a lasting impact on the music industry. Despite the passage of time, the case remains unresolved, with the events surrounding Shakur’s murder continuing to captivate the public’s interest.
