A Pennsylvania State Police officer was fatally shot in Juniata County on Saturday, while another officer sustained serious injuries from gunfire inflicted by the same assailant.

A subsequent exchange of gunfire resulted in the deaths of both the suspect and a state trooper.


“During the exchange of gunfire, both the shooter and a trooper were fatally wounded,” stated Pennsylvania State Police in a release.

While the situation is under control, authorities advise residents in the vicinity to steer clear of the area as the investigation is ongoing. There is currently no perceived threat to the general public.


Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro made a visit to the hospital where the injured trooper was being treated, according to police reports.

Authorities plan to disclose the identities of the suspect and the troopers involved at a later time.
