North Carolina man convicted of teaching bomb-making to kill law enforcement officers

A man was recently convicted by a federal jury for teaching bomb-making techniques aimed at harming federal law enforcement officers. Christopher Arthur, a 39-year-old Army veteran and owner of Tackleberry Solutions, now faces up to 20 years in prison for this offense. In addition to this charge, he was also found guilty of illegal possession of weapons, including improvised explosives discovered on his farm in Mount Olive, North Carolina.

Arthur’s arrest in January 2022 came after he provided bomb-making instructions to an individual known as “Buckshot,” who had sought his help in preparing for the return of agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Prosecutors presented recordings where Arthur detailed a home defense strategy called the “spider web,” involving the placement of improvised explosives around the house to cause harm.

Despite Arthur’s defense attorney arguing that his actions were driven by a belief in an impending war and the need for self-defense, the jury sided with the prosecution. Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara Kocher contended that Arthur’s teachings posed a direct threat to law enforcement officers and encouraged individuals to take up arms against the government.

The FBI had been monitoring Arthur since May 2020 when tactical manuals authored by him were found in the possession of a man involved in a fatal shootout with police in New York. This individual, identified as Joshua Blessed, had trained with Arthur at his North Carolina residence and considered him a close friend. Text messages exchanged between them indicated a strong bond, with Arthur referring to Blessed as a brother.

This case highlights the serious consequences of promoting violence and illegal activities, especially when directed towards law enforcement. It serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the law and preventing individuals from engaging in dangerous behaviors that threaten public safety.
