New York suspect who allegedly shot state trooper committed suicide: police

Authorities believe that the individual responsible for shooting and injuring a New York state trooper during a routine traffic stop in Duanesburg has taken his own life.

The incident occurred when Trooper Richard Albert was shot in the upper arm while pulling over an SUV for speeding at approximately 11 a.m. on a Friday morning. Fortunately, the officer has been treated and released from the hospital.

The suspected shooter, identified as 32-year-old Schenectady resident Nelson Troche, was seated in the passenger side of the vehicle, with an unidentified woman behind the wheel.

According to a statement from the New York State Police, “The driver rolled down the window, and the passenger extended his arm out of the window, firing at Trooper Albert and hitting him in the left upper arm.”

Following the shooting, Troche fled into a nearby wooded area. Despite his injury, Trooper Albert managed to return fire.

About an hour and a half later, Troche was discovered deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“Troopers immediately administered first aid until EMS arrived and airlifted him to Albany Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead,” the press release stated.

Deputy Superintendent Richard Allen described the incident as unprovoked, emphasizing that there was no prior altercation before the shooting.

The female driver has been taken into custody, as she was allegedly driving at a speed of 100 mph on Interstate 88.
