New York foot doctor tries again to have wife killed years after he was busted for same plot: report

An ex-New York podiatrist was found to have planned the murder of his wife shortly after being released from prison for a previous murder-for-hire scheme, as per authorities and reports.

Ira Bernstein, aged 49, allegedly sought to have his wife, Susan Bernstein, killed and then attempted to cover up the evidence of the plan with the assistance of his sister, Jaclyn Godlberg, aged 40, according to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.

Between July and September of the previous year, Bernstein allegedly made efforts to solicit the murder, just months after serving a four-year prison sentence for allegedly offering $100,000 to a car salesman to intentionally run over his wife and stage it as an accident, as reported by lohud.com.

Goldberg, on the other hand, is facing charges of tampering with physical evidence, hindering the prosecution in the third degree, and conspiracy in the fifth degree.

These additional charges have been brought against Bernstein following his previous imprisonment for a 2016 murder plot against his wife. News 12 reported that Bernstein and his then-girlfriend Kelly Gribeluk pleaded guilty in 2017 after offering $100,000 to a car salesman to kill his wife. Bernstein served four years in prison as part of the plea deal.

In 2017, Bernstein was convicted of conspiracy and other charges and was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison, as per lohud. He was released in July 2021.
