Murdaugh boat crash victim Mallory Beach’s family gets $15M in wrongful death settlement

The family of a 19-year-old woman who tragically passed away on a boat owned by the well-known Murdaugh family in South Carolina in 2019 has recently come to a $15 million settlement agreement with the proprietor of a convenience store, as confirmed by the family’s legal representatives.

Mallory Beach was just 19 years old when she lost her life during a reportedly alcohol-fueled boating excursion on the South Carolina coast aboard the Murdaugh family’s vessel on February 23, 2019.

The boat, driven by Paul Murdaugh, son of the disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh, collided with a bridge near Parris Island, causing several passengers to be thrown overboard.

Tragically, Beach’s body was discovered nearly five miles away from the crash site, eight days after the incident.

Prior to the accident, Paul allegedly used his mother Maggie Murdaugh’s credit card and his older brother Buster Murdaugh’s ID to unlawfully purchase alcohol from a convenience store owned by Parker’s Corporation.

The legal representative for the Beach family, Tabor Vaux, has confirmed that Parker’s settled with the family for $15 million in a wrongful death lawsuit.

Additionally, Vaux mentioned that other individuals on the boat, including Conor Cook, Anthony Cook, Miley Altman, and Morgan Dowdy, also settled their claims against Parker’s.

According to attorney Mark Tinsley, who also represents the Beach family, the settlement amount was not solely about the money but rather about holding those responsible for selling alcohol to minors accountable.

The wrongful death lawsuit trial, initially set for August 14, has been called off.

Earlier this year, the Beach family reached a settlement with Buster Murdaugh and the estate of Alex Murdaugh’s late wife, Maggie Murdaugh. Alex Murdaugh was recently convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul in June 2021.

Vaux emphasized that the Beach family’s legal battle is ongoing, particularly in the civil conspiracy case, where they aim to uncover the corruption and intimidation tactics employed by Parker’s in an attempt to undermine the family’s pursuit of justice for their daughter’s untimely death.
