Miss Louisiana Pageant returns to Monroe for 60th anniversary

For over sixty years, the City of Monroe has been the proud host of the Miss Louisiana Pageant, a tradition that continues as contestants compete for the 2023 title to succeed the current titleholder, Gracie Reichman of Colfax.

The Miss Louisiana Organization Executive Director, Dewana Little, unveiled this year’s 27 contestants at a press conference held at the Jack Howard Theatre in the Monroe Civic Center, where the pageant is scheduled to take place at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Preliminary competitions are set for Thursday and Friday.

Little expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “We are thrilled to be here. It promises to be an exciting week filled with family, good health, and the anticipation of crowning the new Miss Louisiana.”

This year’s reigning titleholder, Reichman, a kinesiology major at Louisiana Tech University, shared her excitement for the upcoming days ahead.

“Twenty-seven talented and beautiful young women from various parts of our state have gathered here to showcase their talents and passions to the audience,” she remarked. “I am honored to be a part of this experience. Although we have only spent a short time together, I am confident that whoever I pass the crown to will be in capable hands. I am immensely proud of all the contestants.”

The Miss Louisiana competition originated in New Orleans in 1922 before relocating to Lake Providence in 1959. Since 1963, the competition has been held in Monroe, with plans to mark the 60th Anniversary with a Gala Celebration following Saturday’s pageant.
