Capital Police officer charged with possession of child porn

An officer from the U.S. Capitol Police Department (USCP) was taken into custody and accused of possessing child pornography on Monday morning, as per authorities.

Jared Michael Lemon, a resident of Owings aged 42, faces five charges of possessing child pornography. Maryland State Police officials arrested him at his residence without any issues around 5 a.m. on Monday morning.

The investigation, which spanned several months, was initiated after authorities received a tip regarding Lemon’s online activities.

“The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force about a cybertip indicating that an online user, later identified as Lemon, had uploaded suspected child pornography,” stated Maryland State Police.

Further investigation revealed that the individual in question was employed as a police officer and had been with the USCP since 2005.

In December 2022, state police executed a search warrant at Lemon’s residence and examined his electronic devices. The USCP was informed of the allegations at that time and reassigned him accordingly.

“The USCP was made aware of the investigation in December 2022 and promptly suspended the officer’s police powers. While Maryland State Police conducted their investigation, he was reassigned to administrative duties where he would not have contact with the public,” stated the USCP. “Lemon will be suspended pending the resolution of the criminal case.”

Lemon was taken to the Calvert County Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.

Maryland State Police is actively looking into the matter.
