Three camp counselors in Connecticut were attacked by a rabid bobcat in the early hours of Friday morning, as reported by officials.
The incident took place at around 2:00 a.m. at the Selden Neck State Park in Lyme, according to a press release from the Deep River Fire Department in Connecticut.
One of the counselors was sleeping in a hammock when the bobcat attacked, as confirmed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection in a statement to FOX 61.
After the attack, the adults managed to kill the bobcat. Following the incident, three adults and nine minors were taken to the Deep River town landing.
Fortunately, no children were harmed during the attack.
The attack occurred during Wilderness School, a program that provides foster care youth with a multi-day outdoor adventure experience.
Scott Basile, a program supervisor, mentioned that counselors are trained to handle such situations like the one they faced on Friday.
“We’re out in the woods, we talk about the various things that can go on in the woods, different scenarios that can happen. Our instructors all go out with a wilderness first responder certificate,” Basile explained.
According to the New York Times, the bobcat tested positive for rabies at a State Public Health laboratory.
